October 25 to November 9, 2019

Kelowna based artist Alberto Azzi’s paintings are characterized by an intersection of realism and fantasy. He is a self taught artist with no formal art education. Azzi developed his unique and recognizable style of extreme details, brilliant colours, and precise techniques through the years, after retirement from a forty year career as a dentist. He paints with oils and acrylics on both canvas and masonite.

Azzi was born in Cles in 1926, a small mountain town in the Italian Alps. He has travelled the world extensively and moved to Port Coquitlam BC in 1993. In port Coquitlam he frequented the Senior Center painting club, guided by the late painter Tim White.

Since 2003, Azzi has lived in Kelowna, BC, where he visits the Water Front Senior Centre Painting Club weekly. He has been a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists since 2012.

Azzi’s love for mountains and nature has stayed in his heart, and is often referenced in his paintings. He draws inspiration from his love of nature and the beauty of the world. Azzi considers the pleasure of painting and the thus the never ending search for chromatic and formal harmonies a privilege and gift from the creator.

Alberto Azzi’s exhibition “Living in a Colourful World” in on veiw in the Alternator’s Members Gallery from October 25 to November 9, 2019. A reception will be held from 6-8pm on November 8.
