The Lifeline is a representation of nature’s ability to remain resilient and adaptable amid decay. The weathered branch of a downed pine in the central Okanagan hills reaches upward and outward signifying an accessible point of connection between humanity and nature. Under the most extreme conditions, the natural world adapts without question in the interest of sustaining itself. The reaching but distant hand represents human apprehension in adapting our current way of life for sustainability to be realized. The mirrored composition, warm glints of sunlight and a blue sky optimistically highlight the necessary integration of nature and humanity in the pursuit of a sustainable future.
