Skin and Bones Music Series // Kahil El’Zabar & Isaiah Collier

World-renowned percussionist extraordinaire Sir Kahil El’Zabar returns to the Okanagan with one of the hottest jazz saxophonists currently on the scene, Isaiah Collier for a one-of-a-kind evening of amazing music on July 1st in the Pyramid at the Summerhill Winery in Kelowna. Doors open at 6:30pm, and the concert will begin at 7:00pm. Admission at the door is $40 or $35 for students and Alternator members. Advance tickets can be purchased online here.

This concert is the forty-fifth installment of the Skin And Bones Music Series – an Okanagan Arts Award-nominated concert series dedicated to the presentation of experimental music in the Okanagan. This very special performance also marks the 10th anniversary of Skin And Bones!


Legendary drummer Sir Kahil El’Zabar has worked with many musical titans including Dizzy Gillespie, Cannonball Adderley, Pharoah Sanders, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Archie Shepp, Eddie Harris, Paul Simon, Neneh Cherry, Lester Bowie, and Billy Bang. In addition to being knighted by the Council of France for his global contributions to the arts, El’Zabar is also the former chairman of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), founder and leader of the legendary Ethnic Heritage Ensemble and Ritual Trio, and has recorded on over 100 acclaimed projects.

Drawing from such legends as John Coltrane and Roscoe Mitchell, Isaiah Collier has a sound that combines the experimental, spiritual, and even danceable into the most compelling and rich sonic tapestry. A regular performer at the world famous Blue Note Café in NYC, Collier has worked with Chance the Rapper and Wadada Leo Smith among many other esteemed world class talents. Isaiah was recently described in Downbeat magazine as a “remarkable talent… disseminating beyond-his-years wisdom.” Collier is currently taking the jazz world by storm, his recent album The Almighty (Division 81) was named one of the top ten jazz albums of 2024 by the New York Times.
