Art is tough. We’re tougher together.
Making art outside major urban centres comes with a unique set of hurdles. Whether you’re working out of a dusty garage studio, balancing a day job, or staring down a grant application full of dense academic jargon, you shouldn’t have to figure it all out alone.
The Studio Table is a new series of casual, drop-in gatherings hosted inside the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art. On Tuesday nights, we’re brewing tea and opening the gallery for casual, peer-to-peer conversations. It’s a space designed to bring Central Okanagan creatives together, from self-taught makers to established professionals, to share knowledge, ask awkward questions, and support one another.
Each gathering touches on the practical realities of maintaining a creative practice in Kelowna, covering topics like AI ethics in the studio, setting boundaries, navigating fee schedules, and building DIY grassroots projects. Sessions are hosted by a mix of local artists, curators, and cultural organizers, giving you a warm, direct way to plug into the regional community.
We’re kicking off with a six week series, running from November 3 to December 8, 2026:
Nov 3: Making Art When the Robots Arrive: AI, studio ethics, and keeping human expression at the center of creative work.
Nov 10: Know Your Worth (And Charge For It): Self-advocacy, setting boundaries, and standing up for your value as a creator.
Nov 17: Half-Baked & Proud: Bring a rough sketch, draft proposal, or work-in-progress for constructive, non-judgmental peer feedback.
Nov 24: Out of the Gallery, Into the Wild: DIY projects, spontaneous interventions, self-organized spaces, and building local creative identity.
Dec 1: Crowdsourced Topic #1
Dec 8: Crowdsourced Topic #2
The Studio Table is free and open to everyone. No stiff lectures, no highbrow pretense, and no pressure. Grab a seat at the table, join the conversation, and let's navigate the creative life together.
