Executive Director Application Form
Thank you for your interest in the Executive Director position at the Alternator.
We are committed to a recruitment process that is transparent, equitable, and merit-based. We believe that a fair process not only ensures the best candidate is selected but also upholds the integrity of the gallery within the artistic community.
Because we operate in a close-knit sector, we recognize that applicants may have existing affiliations with our organization (as partners, volunteers, members, or board representatives). To ensure fairness to all candidates and maintain public trust, our process is designed to mitigate affinity bias, prioritize documented competencies, and ensure that personal familiarity does not influence selection outcomes.
Experience & Professional Growth
We recognize that leadership takes many paths, and applicants may not have explicit, direct experience across every single field listed in our requirements. We strongly encourage you to apply anyway and provide meaningful context or transferable experience that relates to each evaluation area. The Alternator is invested in your long-term success. The successful candidate will benefit from an extensive mentorship period with our outgoing Executive Director, and we fully support a leader who is dedicated to acquiring new, position-relevant skills tailored to building upon their existing knowledge and background.
Your Application Package
To complete your application, you will need to submit two main components through this form:
The Pre-Screen Assessment: A standardized questionnaire focusing on core competencies.
Supporting Documents: Your CV, cover letter, and contact information for three professional references.
Our Two-Stage Blind Screening Process
To put our principles into practice and ensure a strict focus on skills, we utilize a two-stage screening process:
Stage 1: Blind Competency Review You will be asked to provide information that directly aligns with key competencies, skills, and requirements. During this stage, we ask that you avoid including personal info (such as your name or specific organizational affiliations) in your assessment answers that may reveal your identity.
Stage 2: Short-list Revelation Once a short list of candidates is determined based on merit, the hiring committee will reveal candidate identities and note any possible conflicts of interest before moving to the interview stage.
Accessibility & Accommodations
The Alternator is committed to an accessible recruitment process. Applicants who require accommodations at any stage—including in the preparation or submission of application materials, or during the interview process—are encouraged to contact the hiring committee. All accommodation requests will be handled with the utmost confidentiality and care.
