I am a mixed media abstract artist and poet whose creative practices continuously inform and shape one another. At times, a poem becomes the emotional or conceptual foundation for a painting; at others, a painting reveals a feeling or fragment of understanding that later finds its way into words. I view both mediums as part of the same ongoing exploration: an attempt to uncover the truest, wisest, and most vulnerable parts of ourselves while navigating memory, identity, loss, universal energies, and raw human emotion.
My painting practice is deeply intuitive and process-driven. I am particularly interested in creating what I think of as “beautiful movement” - layers, gestures, textures, and colour relationships that evoke emotional resonance, transformation, and a sense of aliveness. Working primarily with acrylic paint, acrylic inks, and mixed media on natural, clear-primed canvases, I often build my paintings through many translucent washes of colour, allowing earlier layers to remain partially visible beneath the surface. I am drawn to the tension between chaos and harmony, delicacy and intensity, spontaneity and control.
In poetry, I primarily work in free verse and often find inspiration arriving unexpectedly: through conversations, dreams, fleeting observations, or moments of emotional clarity. My writing tends to explore themes of belonging, nostalgia, transformation, interconnectedness, and the hidden inner landscapes we carry within us. Across both painting and poetry, I am interested in creating work that feels emotionally honest and open-ended - work that invites reflection, intuition, and personal interpretation rather than fixed meaning.
Being a member of the Alternator has made me feel connected to a vibrant and diverse community of artists who are constantly exploring new ideas, perspectives, and creative approaches. Although I only recently became a member, I have already developed a deep appreciation for the sense of connectedness, inspiration, and excitement that the gallery fosters.
I always look forward to reading the newsletters and learning about upcoming exhibitions, workshops, artist talks, and community initiatives. I am continually impressed not only by the creativity and originality of the programming, but also by the inclusiveness and accessibility of the opportunities the gallery creates for artists and community members alike. It feels like a space that genuinely values experimentation, collaboration, and artistic growth.
Attending in-person events and workshops has also been meaningful for me. Each time, I meet thoughtful, like-minded, and deeply creative individuals whose work and energy inspire me. These experiences leave me feeling energized, encouraged, and reminded of the importance of creative community. As an artist, it is incredibly valuable to feel part of a space where curiosity, openness, and artistic expression are actively celebrated and supported.
