My artistic practice can be seen as an ongoing cycle of curiosity, mistake-making, and good luck. Often the end result of a piece is not what was originally intended, but somehow still manages to be pleasantly surprising. I use primarily watercolour and I love painting portraits. Painting people in their rawest and realest states is important to me—I’m not trying to capture perfection. Recently I’ve endeavored to paint people strictly from the Okanagan area as a means of highlighting local diversity. I aspire to find more subjects over the age of 50, as I believe the aging population is one that’s often overlooked.
The Alternator Centre is important to me because it’s important to the community. It’s a welcoming space for both aspiring and seasoned artists alike. The community of members (and staff) is a huge source of support, inspiration, and encouragement.
