Nayaab Master // The Rorschach Test

The Rorschach Test, Ink and Acrylic paint on Canvas, 48” x 72”, March 2022.

This painting relates to the theme The Human Condition as it focuses on emotion and its links to mental illness. It explores themes of overpowering emotions and distress while living with the weight of anxiety and depression. This particular concept is something many people relate to. Mental illness plays a prominent role in how people interact and understand the world around them. The aim of this painting is for the viewer to connect to the artwork through their experiences with mental illness. Overall this painting demonstrates inner conflict concerning my struggles with mental health. Through the process of creating, I try to understand my emotions and feelings, which help me rationalise and work through those nagging emotions. This painting is meant to derive sentiment from the viewer. This is mainly done through the colour palette, gestural strokes, materiality and size of the overall painting.
