Jesse Roode // FRAGMENTATION

FRAGMENTATION, graphite on cartridge paper and digital, 8” x 10”, 2021.

This piece explores the depths of the human condition broken down into small separate parts. We can keep our personal feelings and thoughts private, ‘locked’ in our cerebral 'vaults,' or we can choose to share (or not) our stories with chosen confidantes. Of all earthly creatures, only humans can describe through words and art our perceptions, thoughts and feelings, and convey the essence of life. Our cognitive and verbal powers enable us to consciously experience, exult, and endure. Questioning the next step humanity must take to evolve and survive. The portal opens the threshold to the other side of existentialism.

Jesse lives passionately as an educator, arts facilitator and self taught artist within the unceded territory of the Syilx/Okanagan people. Growing up in the rural town of Debert, Mi’kma’ki, she spent her hours exploring the forest, dreams and creation. Art remained a daily practice; focusing on emotions, self-actualization, dis/embodiment, and the relationship between mind, body and environment. Illustrating symbolically rich narratives, manifesting imaginary realms using mixed mediums, her process involves an investigation into consciousness, corruption, connection of digital technologies, psychic phenomena and material objects. Inviting the observer to navigate an inter-world journey of inner, outer, cyber space.
