lose/gain showcases my fleeting thoughts on duality in our everyday life and identity. Through an interplay of texts and found image, the frame-by-frame animation visualizes the process of finding a point of intersection and middle ground between the two seemingly contrasting forces of loss and gain: how a loss can lead to gain and gain can lead to loss.

Karen Takahashi is an emerging artist with multidisciplinary approach, soon to graduate from the University of British Columbia Okanagan's BFA program. Originally from Tokyo, Japan with multicultural upbringing, she explores the co-existence of contrasting elements and duality in culture and her identity, predominantly through media art and screen printing. Her background in dance and theater have also been a strong drive to inform her creative process.
